Newsletter June – August 2025

Welcome to Our New-Style Newsletter!

As the days grow longer and (mostly) sunnier, we’re delighted to spend more time outdoors with the children. That said, this is British summer after all, so please keep sending your little ones with sunhats and sunscreen as well as raincoats and jumpers. You never know!

Pre-School Leavers – A Fond Farewell

June marks the time for Parents’ Evenings for those children who will be leaving the Pre-School room in July and August. These meetings give us a chance to reflect on your child’s learning journey and share their progress with you.

It’s always bittersweet saying goodbye, but we’re so proud of our pre-schoolers as they head off to “big school.” It has truly been a privilege to play a part in their early years. We wish them every success and happiness in the exciting years ahead.

School drop-off and pick-up service available for:

  • Carr Green
  • Woodhouse
  • Longroyde

Please speak to Donna or Laura if you’re interested in this service. We also run a Holiday Club during every school break, with fun day trips and activities planned throughout.

Inclusion and Wellbeing: Dingley’s Promise & Life Vac Devices

We recently completed Dingley’s Promise training, which focuses on Special Educational Needs. We’re now waiting to hear whether we’ve achieved the Mark of Achievement – fingers crossed! We’ll keep you posted.

Also, thanks to your support with our defibrillator fundraising, we were able to purchase two Life Vacs – one for upstairs and one for downstairs. These are life-saving devices designed to assist someone who is choking. All staff have now completed the training, and we’ll continue to refresh it every 12 months. Let’s hope we never need to use them.

A Big Thank You – Sponsored Read & Library Update

Thanks to everyone who took part in our Sponsored Read Challenge — we were able to purchase lots of new books for the nursery.

Our lending library is now set up in the small room at the top of the staircase leading into the Pre-School room. You’re very welcome to pop in with your child and borrow a book or two.

Pre-School Room Update

Minibeasts and Messy Play!

Our current topic is Minibeasts – and it’s been a real adventure! The children have loved learning about all the creepy crawlies hiding in nature, from playdough spiders to spaghetti worms. There’s no shortage of squishy fun!

Planet Protectors in the Making

We’re introducing the children to recycling and helping them understand how they can look after our planet. If you’re doing anything similar at home, we’d love to hear about it!

Summer Fun – Outdoors and Beyond

The warmer months mean lots of outdoor play, with sand, water, and (hopefully) the paddling pool too! These activities support motor skills, sensory play, and, of course, smiles all around.

Shibden Park Trip & More to Come

Our recent visit to Shibden Park was a fantastic day out. We’re already planning more trips for the summer, so keep an eye out for upcoming announcements.

On to New Adventures

It’s almost time to say a heartfelt goodbye to the children who will soon be moving on to school. Transition information will be shared with schools shortly, and we’ll be holding a Graduation Ceremony to celebrate their achievements (date to be announced soon).

To our pre-school leavers — we’re cheering you on every step of the way. Go out into the world and smash it!

Toddler Room Update

As spring turns into summer, our Toddlers are busy making memories, getting messy, and having all kinds of fun, both indoors and out!

We plan lots of different activities to suit all children, including those who may prefer quieter, less stimulating environments. Every child’s needs and interests are important to us, and we always look for ways to build on what they love most.

We focus especially on the three prime areas of learning:

  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

At this stage, so many milestones are reached for the very first time — and we celebrate them all, big or small. Singing, stories, and shared achievements help the children form early friendships and boost their confidence.

What We’d Love From You:

  • Photos of you and your child enjoying holidays, days out, or family time – we love sharing them with the group!
  • Activity ideas – got something fun you do at home? Let us know!
  • Spare prams or reins – we’re running a bit low and would happily accept donations.

Coming Up…

  • We have some lovely new faces joining us over the next few months – welcome!
  • Birthdays on the way!
    • Marley turns 1
    • Mollie’s birthday is in June
    • Clare’s birthday is in July
  • Lucy has completed a training course on transitions, helping us support children and families even more effectively through changes.
  • Keep an eye on the Toddler Room door for event updates throughout the summer!

Early Pre-School Highlights

We’re kicking off June by making Father’s Day cards ready for the big day on Sunday 16th June.

As summer approaches, we’ll be exploring all things holiday-themed – talking about beach trips, spotting crabs and seaweed, and chatting about how we travel to different places.

We’d love it if you could bring in a postcard from any holidays you go on – we’re creating a Holiday Book for the children to look through, which will help with conversations, speech, and social skills.

Summer Activities on the Way:

We’ll be getting messy, creative, and active with:

  • Crab crafts
  • Sandcastle building
  • Planting sunflowers
  • Sand art
  • Water play day
  • Fruit kebab making
  • Ice lolly fun!

Look out for our Song of the Week, Recipe of the Week, and Book of the Month — these will be displayed on the Early Pre-School door, and reminders will also be sent via iConnect.
